Winter Park Vice Mayor Todd Weaver to Resign from City Commission

Vice Mayor Todd Weaver will resign his City Commission seat, according to an Orlando Sentinel story. Weaver cites time constraints with his business as the reason for leaving.

On Friday, Weaver informed supporters of his decision in an email where he stated, “Because of ever-increasing responsibilities outside City government, I have struggled with time management of late. There is no end in sight for these other responsibilities.”

Despite sending word to supporters, an official resignation had not yet been received by the city.

“Currently, we do not have an official letter of resignation or a date from Vice Mayor Todd Weaver,” City of Winter Park Director of Communications Clarissa Howard told the32789 on Friday afternoon.

The City Charter states that, if a commission seat is vacated 60 days or less before the next general election, the remaining commission members may appoint a replacement, by a majority vote, until the next general election.

The city’s March election, which would have happened less than 60 days from Weaver’s announcement, was cancelled as Commissioners Marty Sullivan and Sheila DeCiccio are officially unopposed in their respective reelection bids for Commission Seats 1 and 2.

Weaver was elected to City Commission Seat 4 in April 2019 and was reelected in last year’s election. He was born in Dayton, Ohio and has been a resident of Winter Park for more than 20 years. Most of his career has been in the aerospace and commercial aviation industries. He also founded Weaver Engineering, Inc., and TruGrit Traction, Inc.

The next City Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8.
