City Implements Election Sign Recycling Initiative

Winter Park is spotted with campaign signs generated by the ongoing race for mayor, and now the City of Winter Park’s Sustainability Program is partnering with the League of Women Voters of Orange County Natural Resources Committee on an initiative to recycle them.

Residents are encouraged to drop off their signs and stands at Cady Way Park, located at 2525 Cady Way, starting Monday, March 8 at noon through Monday, March 22.

The signs collected will be transported to NuCycle Energy where they will be turned into NuCycle’s Enviro-Fuelcubes® and used to generate electricity at Cemex, a large regional cement factory, replacing coal as a clean energy source and preventing them from winding up in landfills.

In November 2020, the partnering organizations engaged in the same initiative following the 2020 state and national elections and successfully facilitated the recycling of over 10,000 signs, equivalent to two tons of waste.
