Winter Park residents and commuters who travel on N. Orange Avenue are advised of a major road project that will affect road access for about a month.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will be adding roadway and pedestrian safety improvements along N. Orange Avenue between the intersections of Clay Street and S. Orlando Avenue beginning Sunday, Sept. 15. Construction will create an inside lane closure from east of Westchester Avenue to west of Westminster Avenue with traffic flow reduced to one lane in each direction.
Road and pedestrian improvements will include lane reduction and street resurfacing along with the construction of new sidewalks, bus pads, and a raised crosswalk. New drainage structures will be added, signs and pavement markings will be replaced, and tree pruning and removal will be conducted. Utility relocation will also take place along the corridor. Construction is expected to last until approximately October 22, provided weather delays are at a minimum.
FDOT advises left turns across oncoming traffic will be prevented from the Orwin Manor entrances, but a gap in the inside lane closures at Westchester Avenue will allow eastbound traffic to turn left onto N. Orange Avenue.
The additions are among several road improvements scheduled for the Winter Park area. The Public Works Department is proceeding with planned brick street repairs and the safety measures along S.R 426 are expected to begin next year.
Additional information on the N. Orange Avenue project is available on the FDOT website.
