Elderly Man Struck and Killed by Freight Train in Winter Park

According to the Winter Park Police Department, an elderly man was killed on Wednesday night at around 10 p.m. after being hit by a freight train at a railroad crossing on the intersection of South Pennsylvania and Holt Avenues.

Winter Park Police said they believe the victim was attempting to cross the railroad tracks when he was struck by the train. The victim, who the WPPD reports as a man in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene due to fatal injuries from impact.

WFTV reporter, Alexa Lorenzo, tweeted a photo of the crime scene where a bicycle can be found near the railroad tracks and the victim. The man has not yet been identified, and the case remains under police investigation.

The Orlando Sentinel reported that northbound SunRail trains were delayed due to the collision by several hours as police conducted their investigation but resumed operations at around 5 a.m. Thursday.
