Winter Park High School Girls Bowling Qualifies for State Tournament

The Winter Park High School Girls Varsity Bowling team has qualified to compete in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state tournament. This achievement came after a winning match against Apopka High School completed Winter Park’s undefeated season.

Rather than recording individual scores, high school matches are bowled under the Baker System, a team format where five players from each team take turns bowling two frames apiece for each game. Head Coach Cindy Allison, who has been with the school’s bowling program for 11 years, explained the teamwork that it takes to share a game. “That’s when you know if you have a unit,” she said. “You have a really good team if they can [bowl together]. If they can [bowl together], they can do anything.” Allison also credits the team’s captain for her “calming presence” and communication with teammates. “The girls listen to her,” Allison explained.

The FHSAA state tournament will be held at Orlando’s Boardwalk Bowl Entertainment Center from November 3 through November 5.
