On June 4, Winter Park Police Chief Michael Deal responded to citizen inquiries regarding his department’s policies concerning the use of force. He stated that the Winter Park Police Department’s policies restrict officers from utilizing choke holds or strangle holds.
“Our officers are trained and are expected to use de-escalation techniques when appropriate,” Deal said in his message. “All of our officers are trained and expected to have the courage to intervene whenever this or any other policy is not being followed.”
