A Lakemont Avenue milling and resurfacing project between Taylor and Pine Avenues will last about three weeks and include stormwater drainage fixes. Work is expected to begin Monday, March 17, at 7 a.m. and end on Wednesday, April 4, but inclement weather may cause delays.
According to Public Works & Transportation Department Engineer III, Hongmyung Lim, the milling and resurfacing will take place during the day with some wastewater drainage work possibly taking place in the evening. He also noted that access to some residential driveways may be interrupted.
“The city is working to ensure the residents will always have access to their driveway,” he said, “unless the immediate area is being milled or paved, or if there are some safety concerns.” The city will directly notify property owners whose access may be affected by any unavoidable issues.
Portions of Lakemont Avenue will be reduced one lane in each direction throughout the project and drivers should follow all detours and posted signs. Residents are asked to call 407-599-3521 with questions and notification of special consideration. Improvements along Bryan Avenue and in the Pineview Circle neighborhood are expected to follow the Lakemont Avenue project but no timeframes are currently available.
The Public Works Department also completed several brick street repairs last year, but as maintenance is an ongoing effort, residents are encouraged to report areas in need of repair by emailing transportation@cityofwinterpark.org or calling 407-599-3233.
And the S.R. 426 improvement project is in development with construction expected to begin in the spring of 2026. While FDOT will be in charge of repaving and the installation of speed management and pedestrian safety measures, the City of Winter Park has committed $1.8 million to support the project, currently estimated at $12 million. The safety improvements are the result of efforts by the Winter Park Road Crisis Campaign to raise awareness of the increasing number of reckless driving accidents along Osceola, Brewer, and Aloma avenues.
Public feedback is still being considered for the SR. 426 project as the final design phase continues. New designs were presented at a February 6 community meeting and another public meeting will be scheduled later this year with members of the construction team available to answer questions. Updates can be accessed on the FDOT project site.
