Doshi to Close in Winter Park, Search Begins for New Location

Another name has been added to the growing list of restaurant closures. Just over a year after its feature in Florida’s 2023 Michelin Guide, Korean-American fine dining restaurant Doshi announced it will be closing at the end of the month.

“When we set out to bring an elevated Korean dining experience to the city, we never imagined we would be featured in the Michelin Guide,” reads a post on the restaurant’s Instagram account. “Unfortunately, due to rising food and labor costs, we’ve made the tough decision to close.”

Doshi started out as Doshibox Korean Kitchen, created by co-owner Gene Kim and chefs Ray and Mike Gillette. Its take-out-only menu featured customizable packed meals, called doshira, consisting of a rice or noodle dish, protein, and a selection of sides. Success led to rebranding with help from Orlando-based Omei Restaurant Group owners Johnny and Jimmy Tung. A 2,200 square-foot location at 1040 N. Orlando Ave. opened in July of 2022 with a menu focused on local sourcing and seasonal themes. The restaurant also offered a high-end, 12-course tasting experience served at a six-seat chef’s counter.

“It’s located in a shopping center, but this Korean-American fine dining restaurant surprises with a modern and understated flair,” states Doshi’s Michelin Guide listing.

Doshi joins Farm & Haus and Ethos Vegan Kitchen on the list of recent local closures. The Parkview and Financier Bistro & Bar closed their doors earlier in the year, but The Glass Knife recently announced its second location and The Imperial Winter Park will reopen on Park Avenue after its E. Morse Boulevard building was sold last year. And Doshi is not officially saying farewell as the closing announcement also states that ownership is, “searching for a new, smaller location and hope to serve you again in the future.”

No official closing date has been announced, but the public is invited to join the Doshi team for the remainder of its service schedule. Reservations are available at Resy.com and future announcements will be made on the Doshi social media accounts.
