The Winter Park location of popular Tex Mex restaurant brand Superica is hosting a summertime charity event starring some well-known talent from the local food scene.
The Guest Chef Pop-up Series began on June 13 and runs through August 28 with three, one-week showcases of a special menu item from event partners: Brandon McGlamery of Prato and Luke’s Kitchen + Bar, JAM Hot Chicken chef/owner Andrew Scala, and James Petrakis of The Ravenous Pig. Each chef will contribute a special menu item to support a charity of their choice. The schedule is as follows:
- June 13-19: Crispy Florida Hog Snapper Tacos with cabbage slaw, roasted pineapple, and salsa macha by Brandon McGlamery. Proceeds benefit Audubon Center for Birds of Prey.
- July 18-24: Hot Chicken Mole Torte – a sub-style chicken sandwich drowned in a vinegar sauce with cumin and dried chili pepper, served with slaw – by Andrew Scala. Proceeds benefit Cannonball Kids’ Cancer Foundation.
- August 22-28: Pork Belly Tacos with birria sauce, black bean puree, avocado cream, and queso fresco by James Petrakis. Proceeds benefit Captains for Clean Waters.
Guest chefs will kick off their respective pop-ups on the first evening of each run, joining the Superica kitchen team and welcoming guests to try the special dishes.
Scala told the32789 that his involvement began with an introduction. “It started with me reaching out randomly,” he said, “just welcoming them to the neighborhood.” He pitched the idea of a menu collaboration for the sandwich that became his contribution. “It’s so much fun to collaborate with other places, especially with really good chefs that I admire.” He adds that his charity-of-choice resulted from a great deal of research. “We wanted to make sure the proceeds went to something local that would really benefit.”
Superica was founded by Georgia-based chef/owner Ford Fry, who grew up in Texas and developed an affinity and respect for Tex Mex cuisine. The Winter Park location at 415 S. Orlando Ave. Suite 211 is the company’s first in Florida and opened in November 2023.
“We’re thrilled to present a series of exclusive chef pop-ups featuring some of Orlando’s culinary legends,” reads a statement from the company. “But it’s not just about the food – it’s also about giving back. We’re proud to announce that all proceeds from these specials will be donated to a charity of each chef’s choice.”
