The City of Winter Park has announced a series of community meetings to aid the development of the Vision Zero Action Plan, aimed at creating safer roads throughout Central Florida. Cities in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties are participating in coordinated efforts funded by the Safe Streets for All grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
A regional dashboard on the Vision Zero website currently provides accident information for specific areas and time periods. This includes the type and manner of collisions, and the number of fatalities and serious injuries resulting from traffic incidents. Citywide safety efforts will augment the new traffic management strategies of Winter Park’s Transportation Master Plan.
Residents are asked to provide feedback, which will aid in the creation of an action plan comprised of the following components:
- A network to identify high-risk areas for fatal and serious injury crashes.
- An equity component for prioritizing efforts in areas that are disproportionately affected by traffic crashes.
- Prioritizing streets and intersections where safety efforts can have the highest regional impact.
- Crash reduction through education and enforcement programs.
- Establishing ways to update information and monitor progress.
Feedback will be collected during the following community meetings:
- Thursday, Feb. 29, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Orlando Magic Recreation Center, 4863 N. Goldenrod Rd.
- Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Winter Park Farmers’ Market, Central Park West Meadow
- Tuesday, March 26, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in City Hall Commission Chambers, 401 S. Park Ave. This will be a hybrid meeting. Registration for virtual access is available at cityofwinterpark.org/meetings.
