The Winter Park Playhouse will present six brand new productions during the 5th Annual Florida Festival of New Musicals. The festival, scheduled from June 23 – 26, is the only one of its kind in the Southeastern region, showcasing new musicals while incorporating audience responses.

Guests will have the opportunity to witness musicals in their early stages of development and provide feedback to the creators after the performance. The first act of each musical will be performed without staging by groups of professional actors and musicians.

“Having the audience actually be allowed to voice their thoughts in a discussion format allows the creative team to really dive in and get constructive feedback to improve their work,” said Lisa Melillo, director of marketing and public relations for Winter Park Playhouse. “It’s a benefit to the writing/composing team to not only have a professional reading on stage for their own insights, but also for musical theatre audiences with all types of patrons represented in order to get a larger perspective on how their new work translates from page to stage.”

The six featured productions are:

  • “Ciao Bambino” by Elizabeth Allen Turner
  • “Khan!!! The Musical!” by Brent Black and Alina Morgan
  • “Naked: The Musical” by Germaine Shames
  • “Thirty Seconds: A Musical” by Michael Rogers
  • “Stone Crossed” by Philip David Stern
  • “The Goldilocks Variations” by Steve Wolf and Charles Baker

Tickets are available for either $10 per show or $50 to access to all six performances. Guests can purchase tickets at the Winter Park Playhouse box office or online.

Founded in 2002 and located at 711 N. Orange Ave., the Winter Park Playhouse is a nonprofit, professional musical theatre that offers patrons an up-close-and-personal experience. The theatre is affiliated with Actors’ Equity Association and offers year-round programming.

Show lists, descriptions, and schedules are available on the playhouse website, or call the box office at 407-645-0145.
