The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens will be exceptionally colorful this week as artists capture the outdoors during the 14th Annual Winter Park Paint Out, April 24-30.
A total of 23 professional plein air artists will be setting up their easels in the Sculpture Gardens, and throughout the Winter Park area. Plein air artists portray outdoor scenery using only natural light and authentic colors with mediums that include oil, watercolor, pastel, and acrylic.
Art lovers are invited to watch the artists at work with free admission to the Sculpture Gardens and Museum Gallery through April 30. Events include painting demonstrations, and a Garden Party on Saturday, April 30. Works will be on display as soon as they are dropped off, and all artwork created during the week will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds going to support the Museum.
“Most plein air festivals are done in more remote places where natural scenery is abundant, but it’s hard to access the artists,” said Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens CEO/Executive Director Debbie Komanski. “We have areas that are so natural, right here in Winter Park, and a lot of interesting architecture.
According to Komanski, the event is scheduled for the last full week of April to avoid conflicts with other plein air festivals. The roster includes invited artists and those chosen from an open juried call. And locals play a big part in making the event possible.
“We are always very grateful to our Winter Park residents because every year we find volunteers willing to open their homes and host the out-of-town artists that come in for the week,” she said.
