Winter Park by the Numbers: Checking the Prosperity Scorecard

The Winter Park Chamber of Commerce recently posted its Prosperity Scorecard; a progress report on an assortment of topics chosen by residents as indicators of a successful economy.

According to the chamber, 616 residents took part in the Prosperity Scorecard survey, which began in October. The report contains the most recent statistics available for each topic, and includes everything from jobs numbers to the average sale price of a single-family home. The scorecard will remain on the chamber’s website and statistics for each topic will be updated as available.

Some of the topics listed in the report are:

Population growth: the32789 ZIP code grew by 1,523 residents over the last five years to a population of 26,307.

Jobs: The number of Winter Park positions increased by 2.3% in the past five years to a total of 31,037 at the end of 2021. The numbers outpaced the national five-year growth rate of 0.4%. The industry with the largest number of job postings currently is healthcare and social assistance with 818 unique positions.

Pay: The 2021 average earnings per job of $66.3K was below the national average of $75.5K per job for the same year.

Diversity: A total of 23% of the residents surveyed are minorities while 39% of Winter Park City staff members are minorities. A total of 55% of the residents surveyed are over the age of 40 while 58% of City staffers are over the age of 40.

Home prices: The average sale price for a single-family home in the32789 ZIP code is $771,184, and the average price per square foot is $341. The average sale price for a single-family home in the 32792 ZIP code is $481,800, and the average price per square foot is $247.

Food insecurity: Approximately 39.5% of Winter Park students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch programs in 2021.

Voter count: A total of 7,203 residents voted in Winter Park’s 2022 election, which was 825 less than the total number of voters in the 2021 mayoral election, and 1,516 less than the turnout for the 2020 election.
