Light On The Sugar to Open Second Winter Park Location

Winter Park-based bakery and coffee shop Light On The Sugar recently announced plans to open its second location in a 1,500-square-foot retail space at 501 Orlando Ave this fall. Owners Yixi Qiu and his wife Wen Pan, who are both originally from China, named Light On The Sugar after the Eastern Asian cultural tradition of creating baked goods with less sugar and more fruit.

Designed by Justin Fong with GDPdesignbuild, the bakery’s second location will feature a larger space for customers to enjoy baked goods inside or on the outdoor patio. Renderings show a light pink, modern space with an abundance of natural light and plants located throughout the bakery, which will offer a variety of coffee, specialty drinks, cakes, tea, and other baked goods.

The first Light On The Sugar location opened in September 2019, just a few months before the COVID-19 pandemic in a 900-square-foot shop at 4270 Aloma Ave. in Suite #112. According to its website, the brand’s Instagram account quickly hit 10,000 followers after a TikTok video about the bakery went viral and continued to grow.

In a recent press release, Light On The Sugar co-founder Yixi Qiu shared his thoughts on the new space, where they will introduce new menu items such as cream-filled doughnuts and mousse cakes. “Because of growing popularity and long lines, we would often sell out early, and have outgrown our small space,” Qiu wrote. “Opening up a larger, second location will allow us to meet the demand.”

The bakery maintained a steady flow of business during the pandemic, as the announcement of its second location comes on the heels of the bakery’s recent unveiling of Sugar Dough Bakehouse, a sister concept in Audubon Park that opened in early August.
