Winter Park to Consider Lifting Sunday Alcohol Sales Restriction

Sunday breakfast on Park Avenue may soon include alcohol service. City commissioners at their next meeting will hear the first reading of an ordinance prohibiting the sale, consumption, and service of alcoholic beverages between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. every day of the week. The change would shift the start of Sunday sales from 11 a.m. to 7 a.m. The St. Patrick’s Day allowance for alcohol service until 2 a.m. would remain under the new ordinance.

The later Sunday start time dates back to state Blue Laws meant to restrict alcohol sales on days of worship. The current schedule accommodates Sunday brunch service, but breakfast restaurants with liquor licenses such as First Watch and Park Avenue’s Briarpatch can offer all-day service. The change to a 7 a.m. start on Sundays would also benefit early bird shoppers at supermarkets and convenience stores. Tampa lifted its Sunday limits in January of 2021, just in time for the city to host the Super Bowl.

The first reading of the ordinance will be heard Wednesday, July 24, with commissioners casting the final vote at the second reading on August 14.

Wednesday’s City Commission meeting will also continue the 2025 city budget hearings and include an update on Parks & Recreation Department projects. The full meeting agenda and registration for virtual access is available at cityofwinterpark.org/meetings.
