City Gives Update on Street Repair Progress

Public Works contractors are continuing a long-range maintenance plan to address degraded driving conditions on brick-paved streets throughout Winter Park. A number of projects were prioritized last year as a response to resident concerns with some spot repairs completed before large-scale improvements began.

Recent posts on city-owned social media accounts have alerted drivers to ongoing work along a stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue. And according to Public Works & Transportation Planner Keith Moore, approximately 10% of the planned repairs have been completed to date.

“Currently, a city contractor is attending to the potholes and depressions along Pennsylvania and Lake Sue avenues,” said Moore. The project is expected to span more than two months; however, Moore says any projected timeline is subject to adjustments due to the extent of damage, inclement weather, availability of staff, and funding.

A photo posted to the City of Winter Park Facebook page shows work crews along Pennsylvania Avenue on Thursday, April 18.

“The city is also bringing in an additional contractor to work on Old England Avenue,” Moore said. “This one-way facility is one of the many historic bricked roads within our city that has a substantial number of depressions due to the age of the roadway.”

In addition to brick street maintenance, the streets in the Quail Hollow neighborhood are scheduled to be resurfaced this summer. Curbs and ADA ramps have been replaced in areas where tree roots have caused buckling and damage.

Moore adds that, as streets continue to age and sustain ware, maintenance will continue beyond the current project schedule. Residents are encouraged to report areas in need of repair by emailing transportation@cityofwinterpark.org or calling 407-599-3233.
