Winter Park Playhouse is ringing in the new year with an Off-Broadway comedy hit and a new addition to the Spotlight Cabaret Series.

“Nunsense A-Men!” will run Jan. 20 through Feb. 18 on the theatre Mainstage. The musical comedy is the original Off-Broadway musical “Nunsense,” about a convent that stages a fundraiser to bury members of its order who died as the result of an unfortunate cooking accident. The unique addition to “Nunsense A-Men!” is that all the nuns are played by men.

The cast includes returning Playhouse actors Dustin Cunningham, David Michael, and Bert Rodriguez, with Alexander LaPlante and Ryan J. Lynch making their Winter Park Playhouse debut.

Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday matinees at 2:00 p.m., and select Wednesday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m. The schedule also includes two preview performances – Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m., and a Friday, Jan. 20 matinee at 2 p.m.

In addition to the hilarity of “Nunsense A-Men!” the Playhouse is presenting the latest addition to its Spotlight Cabaret Series, “Tales From A Hopeful Romantic,” Jan. 25 and 26.

The production incorporates songs from Broadway shows including “Guys and Dolls,” “Kiss Me Kate,” “Funny Girl,” and “Liza With a Z.” The classic show tunes are complimented by popular songs from artists including The Supremes and Dusty Springfield.

“Tales From A Hopeful Romantic” features the vocals of Tay Anderson with piano accompaniment by Playhouse Music Director Christopher Leavy. The performances will be presented in the theatre’s lobby piano bar with limited seating. Lobby doors and the bar will open at 6:30 p.m. with the cabaret starting at 7:30 p.m.
