The Winter Park High School boys volleyball team made Wildcats history last week with the No. 18 spot on the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association boys volleyball Super 25.

The Orlando Sentinel reported the ranking came after the team’s victory over Freedom High School in the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) state championship in South Florida.

Winter Park came into the match with a 28-2 regular season record. The Wildcats took the first two sets, then kept the Freedom Patriots at bay to win the five-set match 25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 22-25, 15-10, marking the first boys volleyball state championship for Winter Park.

Winter Park High School teams have currently won state titles in 14 different FHSAA sanctioned sports. Next month, the Women’s Varsity 8 boat will represent Winter Park High School’s scholastic rowing team at the Henley Royal Regatta, June 28-July 3.
