Rollins College President Grant Cornwell recently announced that a $3 million grant from the Florida Charities Foundation was gifted to the school for the development of a new state-of-the-art theatre and dance facility. The grant was issued as a show of support for the college’s commitment to carrying on its educational programs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Much of America’s young lost a year of intellectual growth due to shuttered in-person classes this year,” said Philip Tiedtke, Florida Charities Foundation trustee, in a recent press release. “Select institutions like Rollins College that found a way to give students what they needed should be recognized and rewarded.”

Grateful for support from the foundation, Cornwell cited the theater project as “critical to the educational excellence and rigor of one of [Rollins’] top-ranked academic programs.”

The new facility will be located near the site of the former Fred Rogers Theatre. “Generations of students will benefit from this investment,” Cornwell said. “It is gratifying to be able to move boldly forward with our mission even in the context of the challenges presented by the pandemic.”
