City Place, a new shopping center on South Orlando Avenue with roughly 7,000 square feet of retail space, is close to completion. Mills Place LLC, an entity of Garber Development, plans to wrap up construction on the new development this month.

During the summer of 2019, the property that will soon house City Place was purchased for $3 million with plans to maintain the building’s historic look while giving it a modern facelift. Lamont Garber, owner of Garber Development, is reportedly optimistic about this retail investment, which neighbors other popular retail centers. “The location is hard to beat,” Garber said.

Garber’s plans are to fill the City Place storefronts with businesses such as fitness studios, casual dining, juice and smoothie bars, salons, and medical offices. Brian Grandstaff, a principal at Millenia Partners, represented Garber Development in the property deal.

The new City Place building, which offers units of various sizes, already has two vendors interested in leasing its available retail spaces, which have been on the market for less than a year. One of the future retailers, Tune Up, a men’s hair salon, recently signed a lease with Grandstaff’s team to open in one of the property’s units.

Also coming to City Place is Café Don Juan, an authentic Latin coffee chain. Known for its multiple locations in Puerto Rico, Café Don Juan plans to open its first Florida concept in the new City Place center as part of its Sunshine State Expansion plan. In addition to its coffee, which is imported from South and Central America, the coffee shop will offer customers food for breakfast, lunch, and catering. The retailer is said to open in the late spring or early summer of 2021.
