UPDATE: The location of this story has a Winter Park mailing address in the 32792 ZIP code, but is under Seminole County jurisdiction.

At 8:15 p.m. on Friday, Seminole County police responded to a home invasion call at 5443 N Woodcrest Drive in Winter Park. The victim, 44-year-old Jerimy Thomas, was shot in a struggle with one of the suspects. The victim’s wife explained that multiple masked individuals entered the home via the garage and demanded money.

Thomas was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he died Saturday morning.

Officials say the victims were uncooperative at the scene and did not want to press charges. Investigators found evidence of drug activity at the home and believe that this act was not random, but rather that Thomas was targeted.

The Seminole County Sherriff’s Office is following leads and asking that people report recent, suspicious activity in the area to (407) 665-6650 or CRIMELINE at (800) 423-TIPS.
